2017 TFA Policy Initiatives

Home and Community Based Services
Support the Governor’s budget for Options for Community Living, which  provides home-delivered meals, personal care and homemaker assistance to older adults and adults with physical disabilities, and prevents or delays more costly institutional care.

Housing Alternatives
Create new opportunities for older adults  to secure safe and affordable housing, including housing with options that include support services within their communities and with health care integration.

Senior Transportation
Support the expansion of senior transportation programs, including pilot programs for volunteer driver, “door through door” transportation that provides the hands-on assistance needed to get older adults, who are unable to utilize regular public transportation, to and from necessary medical and other appointments.

Elder Abuse
Support efforts to provide the necessary resources for prevention and prosecution of crimes of abuse, neglect, and exploitation against older Tennesseans.  Ensure the continued statewide implementation of TCA 71-6-125 directing district attorneys general to establish vulnerable adult protective investigative teams.

Food Insecurities
Advocate for initiatives that support seniors who are at risk for hunger and are food insecure. Food insecurity threatens the physical health of seniors, while the isolation of living alone threatens their emotional health.  When seniors receive adequate nutrition and regular interactions with others, those threats diminish, allowing them to maintain or improve their health and remain independent for longer.
