The Tennessee Federation for the Aging (TFA) in partnership with Amerigroup TN is offering a new grant program in 2021 to create Memory Café programs in each Grand Division. With financial support from Amerigroup, TFA is providing grants to three local organizations to begin Memory Café activities.

This year's recipients are:

West Tennessee Region - Martin Gateway Center in Martin.
Middle Tennessee Region - Alzheimer’s TN-Cumberlands partnering with the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability.
East Tennessee Region - Alzheimer’s Tennessee-East

Memory Cafés offer people with dementia and their care partners the opportunity to enjoy regular, enjoyable social interaction with others in similar circumstances in a safe, welcoming environment. Memory Cafés share the commitment to offering hospitality, interesting and engaging programs and information about dementia and appropriate resources.

Each organization receiving a Memory Café grant plans to begin activities in June.

Tennessee Federation for the Aging Launches Memory Café Grant Program

The Tennessee Federation for the Aging (TFA) in partnership with Amerigroup Tennessee has established a new grant program for local community organizations to offer services to individuals with dementia and their caregivers. A locally operated Memory Café can provide regular, enjoyable social interaction with others in similar circumstances. The Café provides a safe, welcoming environment on a drop-in basis that involves appropriate activities, conversations, education/information and fellowship.

During the COVID pandemic time period many Memory Café groups hold meetings virtually using various online platforms.  As social distance restrictions begin to loosen for community gatherings, some local Memory Café activities may again explore in-person activities.

Non-profit community-based organizations eligible to apply for TFA Memory Café Grants include, but are not limited to, churches; senior centers; public libraries; Councils on Aging; adult education programs; organized community groups; and charitable social organizations. Host organizations receiving TFA Memory Café Grants must agree to publicize and open their Memory Café gatherings to any local interested community members, regardless of membership in their organization.

TFA Memory Café Grants provide up to $8,000 for a renewable one-year term to offer two Memory Café activities per month. The maximum term for a grant is three years. A typical gathering could be 5-15 persons depending on the host organization capabilities. Grantee organizations will receive startup technical assistance from TFA and Amerigroup Tennessee.

Application are closed for 2021.  Please check back for announcements for 2022 proposals
