Tennessee Federation for the Aging Continues Memory Café Grant Program

The Tennessee Federation for the Aging (TFA) in partnership with Amerigroup Tennessee is continuing the Memory Café grant program for Year 2 beginning in April 2023.

Memory Café grants allow local community organizations to offer services to individuals with dementia and their caregivers. A locally operated Memory Café provides regular, enjoyable social interaction with others in similar circumstances. The Café provides a safe, welcoming environment on a drop‐in basis that involves appropriate activities, conversation, education/information and fellowship.

Grants for Year 2 of this program were awarded to:
- Rosemark Church, Millington for West Division
- FiftyForward, Nashville for Middle Division
- Alzheimer’s TN – Cumberland and the Upper Cumberland AAAD for Middle Division
-  Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga for East Division

TFA Memory Café Grants are for a one‐year term to offer Memory Café activities each month. A typical gathering could be 5‐25 persons depending on the host organization capabilities. Grantee organizations receive startup technical assistance from TFA and Amerigroup Tennessee.

During Year 1 of the Memory Café grant program more than 1,100 persons attended TFA Memory Café events across the state. Seventy-five unique Memory Café events provided hospitality, interesting and engaging programs and information about dementia and appropriate resources to individuals suffering from dementia, their caregivers and families, and interested community members.

TFA and Amerigroup Agree to Fund New Local Memory Café Locations!

The Tennessee Federation for the Aging (TFA) in partnership with Amerigroup TN is offering a new grant program in 2021 to create Memory Café programs in each Grand Division. With financial support from Amerigroup, TFA is providing grants to three local organizations to begin Memory Café activities.

This year's recipients are:

West Tennessee Region - Martin Gateway Center in Martin.
Middle Tennessee Region - Alzheimer’s TN-Cumberlands partnering with the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability.
East Tennessee Region - Alzheimer’s Tennessee-East

Memory Cafés offer people with dementia and their care partners the opportunity to enjoy regular, enjoyable social interaction with others in similar circumstances in a safe, welcoming environment. Memory Cafés share the commitment to offering hospitality, interesting and engaging programs and information about dementia and appropriate resources.

Each organization receiving a Memory Café grant plans to begin activities in June.
