Congratulations to Ms. Ella Mae Fugate
Recipient of the 2016
Mrs. Clint (Lena Mae) Pickens
Volunteer Award
About Ella Mae Fugate
Ella Mae Fugate, Claiborne County, was chosen as the first ever recipient of the Mrs. Clint (Lena Mae) Pickens Volunteer Award at the 2016 TN Federation for the Aging Conference in Pigeon Forge on November 2, 2016. Ella Mae was nominated by Denise West, Director of the Claiborne County Office on Aging and Tazewell Senior Center. Ella Mae impacts the lives of seniors in the Tazewell community every day. She teaches knitting at the senior center at Tazewell, serves on the Senior Center Advisory Board, visits the hospital and nursing home almost daily, provides transportation to and from medical appointments and social activities to seniors who no longer drive, and makes over 100 telephone reassurance call to homebound and socially-isolated seniors monthly. In 2016, Ella Mae donated 254 documented hours of in-kind volunteer services to Claiborne County Office on Aging & Tazewell Senior Center, but that does not even include all of her other community service endeavors. On top of all of this, she is an 85-year old, cancer-surviving dynamo! The Claiborne County Office on Aging & the Tazewell Senior Center stated that they are “blessed to have Ms. Ella Mae as a part of our Senior Centers, and we are very thankful for all that she does for us and for the seniors.” |
